Types Of Braces

Braces offer abundant health benefits. If you have crooked, crowded or misshapen teeth, brushing and maintaining oral hygiene can in fact, be very difficult. This can lead to gum disease and tooth decay. It is also painful and unsightly, and will affect the overall health of your body.

Montreal International Clinic offers modern orthodontic treatment options, to help you straighten your teeth, achieve a properly aligned jaw and a healthy and beautiful smile. The most popular options are clear and traditional braces.

Instances where braces are required:

  • Protrusion of teeth
  • If you have difficulty biting or chewing
  • Crowded teeth making brushing and flossing extra difficult
  • If you have misaligned or crooked teeth

There is a certain degree of asymmetry in the human face, which often begins in the mouth. Symmetry is slowly but subtly restored with braces. Did you know that you can alter your entire appearance with braces? Braces make discreet corrections to your smile, but the results are astounding!

Traditional braces

Traditional or metal braces consist of wires and metal brackets. However, they are not old-fashioned braces. With technology making vast improvements in materials and techniques, the brackets are less noticeable than before. The wires align your teeth and help them move into the correct position. This is done through the use of a special technology that uses body heat to help shift your teeth with minimal discomfort and as efficiently as possible.

Ceramic or clear braces

Ceramic or clear braces are similar in shape and size to metal brackets. They are designed to match the colour of your tooth and are less noticeable. You can opt for tooth-coloured wires as well, which are also mostly unnoticeable.

There are 3 components to both clear and traditional braces:

Brackets

Brackets are attached using a special glue to bond the tooth to the surface. Brackets remain bonded for the duration of the treatment.

Wires

This is a thin metal which connects to the bracket where pressure is applied to your tooth to guide it into its proper place.

Elastic

Elastic or rubber bands are coloured ties which are attached to the brackets. You can choose from a variety of colours, including clear wires.
